Instruments and Sample Libraries
The Other Gear-heads : by Paul Y. Csige

When you want realistic sound but don't have the budget for players, Sample Libraries can fill the void. A Sample Library is a far cry above synthesizers. A real instruments is recorded. Single notes are extracted and programmed to a MIDI keyboard. When the composer presses the key the recorded note is played back. This give the musician the ability to create any type of music without assistance.

Garritan Personal Orchestra - For the price, GPO has some of the best and most versatile orchestral sounds. From solo violin to tuba and flutes, GPO delivers realistic and convincing sounds.

SAM Orchestral Brass- GPO has good brass instruments but Project Sam instruments go a step beyond. From wild trombone slides to 'Matrix' like trumpet swells, SAM Brass is perfect for film and TV scoring.

Colossus - From EastWest, Colossus is a bit of everything. Some voices, electric guitars, saxophones, and synth. A good library for any occasion.

Quantum Leap Stormdrum- This is the drum and percussion library for film composers. With great loops that change to whatever tempo you want and beds designed for chases, and a whole assortment of other purposes I can’t imagine not having this Instrument in my collection.

Ethno World III- While European music is predominant in film scores there is a whole world of interesting sounds and instruments out there. Ethno World III contains hundreds of world instruments, from Aztec flutes to Chinese violins. If your project takes place there or you simple want the color an ethnic instrument provides, Ethno World III can do it.

WAVES Diamond Bundle- Pro Tools is an amazing editing program for sound but without the plug-ins that give you, reverb or EQ it would be almost useless for professional applications. Diamond Bundle gives you some of the best EQ, reverbs, plus plug-ins for getting rid of noise and crackle.

Sound Ideas- Most sound effects are created by combining different sound. Sound Ideas contains thousands of sound from airplanes to gunshots. Mixing these different elements can create some thrilling new effects.
